8/6/2023 0 Comments Half life echoes hevCandidate Twelve arrives at a climactic confrontation between the Xen aliens and the HECU marines. The entity appears to be fleeing the powers of the enigmatic G-Man. Along the way, Candidate Twelve encounters visions projected by a sentient entity that grants visions of the Universal Union, also known as the Combine, from Half-life 2. Candidate Twelve escapes and battles the military en route back to the transit hub from the start of the game. The player nearly escapes with a surviving security guard and scientist, but are ambushed by the HECU marines. At this time, military convoys can be seen entering Black Mesa. The player eventually escapes to the surface in a large freight elevator. The gargantua, a massive alien organism, stalks the player's movements. Īfter the resonance cascade, Candidate Twelve battles through the facility's sewer system, encountering other survivors along the way. After entering a tram, the "resonance cascade" forces Candidate Twelve to fight for survival as the G-Man observes. The facility has flickering of lights and failing electrical equipment, with tremors shaking it as scientists begin to worry about the experiment. The player assumes the role of an unnamed character, referred to as "Candidate Twelve," a scientist.Īn unnamed character, only referred as "Candidate Twelve," arrives for work at the Black Mesa Research Facility. Setting Įchoes is set in the same location and time frame as that of Half-Life, taking place at a remote New Mexico laboratory called the Black Mesa Research Facility, showing the events of Half-Life from the perspective of a different protagonist. His success in the endeavor eliminated the factor which kept the portal open, finally closing it on both sides.Echoes restructures the Black Mesa Research Facility using the GoldSrc engine, and includes more dynamic lighting than the base Half-Life game. Then Freeman traveled to Xen via a portal prepared by the science team to neutralize the Nihilanth. As a countermeasure, Freeman was armed and equipped himself for an expedition. The remaining scientists from the Lambda Core discovered that, despite their efforts, the portal was being held open from the other side by an unknown entity: the Nihilanth. The phenomenon was self-sustaining and would thus continue until action was taken to terminate it, and Gordon Freeman, being the one who caused it, took upon himself the job of closing it, The rift appeared to have closed on Earth's side after the surviving Black Mesa science team, including Freeman, took steps to re-initialize Black Mesa's satellite-based energy projection network (including replacing a missing satellite by launching an orbital rocket carrying a replacement satellite). While at first, only basic Xen wildlife, such as Headcrabs, and Barnacles emerged through the rift, other intelligent creatures, such as Vortigaunts, were also sent to the other side by the Nihilanth, the leader of the Xen forces. The Resonance Cascade caused an aggressive rift between Xen and the Black Mesa complex on Earth on May 16th, 200. Every event across the Half-Life series can be traced back to the Resonance Cascade as the point go origin.Īppearances Half-Life and its expansions The Resonance Cascade is, therefore, arguably the single most significant event in the entire Half-Life timeline and universe. It later sparked Portal Storms across the Earth and ultimately led to the Seven Hour War and opened the way for the Combine's invasion of the planet. The Resonance Cascade was the cause of not only the inter-dimensional rift but also all following events. While appearing to have been a contained event, it did have repercussions across the entire planet. This allowed the crystal to resonate at a frequency much stronger than what it should have. The reason for this being the anti-mass spectrometer operating at a level far above safety parameters, at about 105% compared to the safety maximum of 90%. The Xen crystal sample studied at Black Mesa resonated strongly enough to tear a rift between the border world, Xen and Earth. If crystals (such as those from the Border World Xen) resonate beyond a certain threshold, it can open dimensional rifts and portals. When excited by specific forms of energy of the correct frequency, it will resonate, and the amplitude of the vibrations will grow.
